V26-1419 : W5026/4 - 381 LONDON ROAD SOUTH, LOWESTOFT
Application for construction of front boundary wall.
The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control outlined a proposal for the erection of a two metre high brick wall along the London Road South frontage. At present there was a close boarded fence in this position with a one metre high brick and railing wall on the corner of Rectory Road. The Director felt that the proposed brick wall would be a very dominant feature out of character in this part of the Conservation Area. The plain brick wall could set an unacceptable precedent for similar proposals along this main approach road to Lowestoft which was characterised by low brick roads, and his recommendation was therefore for refusal.
The Director showed the Committee a slide of a panelled brick wall nearby in Rectory Road which could be an acceptable alternative. Members asked that the Director inform the applicant of this more acceptable style which was likely to receive approval. RESOLVED
That planning permission be refused to application W5026/4.
