V26-1338 : REQUESTS FOR LOCAL AUTHORITY SOCIAL HOUSING GRANT

The report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services informed members that the Housing Corporation Annual Development Programme 1999/2000 was as usual oversubscribed and several schemes failed to attract funding. Of those, three schemes were considered to merit funding by way of Local Authority Social Housing Grant.

(a) Broadland Housing Association at Long Road, Lowestoft.
Phase two of this scheme was a bid for a three bedroom house, a four bedroom house, and two two bedroom bungalows, with a Grant requirement of £79,000. The Director considered there was no immediate need Social Housing Grant, although there were advantages if made.

(b) Suffolk Heritage Housing Association at Priory Lane, Bungay.
The bid was for seven properties, with a total grant requirement of £138,232 which could be phased over two years. The Director considered that in view of the development's relationship to a Rural Development Commission Foyer scheme, for which the funding had been made available, this scheme merited priority of any Social Housing Grant to be made.

(c) Suffolk Heritage Housing Association at 41 Mount Pleasant, Halesworth. This was a redundant shop premises in Council ownership, conversion of which to a one bedroom flat had a grant requirement of £10,800 if the site was transferred to the housing association at nil value. The Director considered this was of low priority, serving mainly to tidy the site.

RESOLVED

That the Suffolk Heritage Housing Association development at Priory Lane, Bungay be approved for a Social Housing Grant of £138,232, to be phased over 1999/2000 and 2000/2001.

*Commitment of Forward Budget.
