V26-1328 : BECCLES COMMON - MANAGEMENT STUDY
The report of the Chief Executive reminded members that minute V24-399/4 delegated the management of Beccles Common to Beccles Town Council. The natural acid grassland of Beccles Common was in very poor condition. A Management Plan commissioned by Beccles Town Council addressed the ecological concerns, but not in a way that would continue to support golf on the Common.
The Chief Executive considered the situation required expert guidance on how best to maintain the Common to sustain golf, grazing and general public use with the existing natural conditions, and in discussion with the Town Council an expert with a national standing had been found. Beccles Town Council had agreed to contribute £2,000 towards the £4,000 estimated cost of a study by this expert.
In compliance with Standing Order 6.2(c) the Committee were asked to authorise the study with the residual cost being met from the open space maintenance budget. RESOLVED
That the Chief Executive commission Dr Brennan to carry out a management study of Beccles Common in the terms indicated in the report of the Chief Executive, due to the specialised nature of the work and in accordance with the provisions of Standing Order 6.2(c).
