V26-1288 : QUESTIONS
Under Standing Order 1.6, Councillor Young had submitted the following question: `Could it please be confirmed as to whether Waveney District Council has authorised grants to the National Local Government Forum Against Poverty and if so how much? According to recent press reports, see attached, this Forum, funded by Rotherham Council, is now under investigation by South Yorkshire Police. If payments have indeed been made could they now be suspended until clarification has been sought as to the probity of this Forum?'
The Chairman of the Housing and Environmental Services Committee gave the following reply:
`I confirm what both the Chief Executive and Director of Central Services said when Councillor Young approached them with this question, namely an annual grant of £432 for each of the years 1997/98 and 1998/99 has been paid to this organisation. Furthermore as the two officers have already stated to Councillor Young no further payments will be made until the situation has been clarified, following which a report will be made to the Committee.'
