V26-1240 : SMALL/MEDIUM BUSINESS RATE GRANT SCHEME

The report of the Chief Executive updated members on the Council's Small/Medium Business Rate Grant Scheme showing the expenditure divided between Objective 5b funded and non-funded areas. It also outlined the possible effects on this scheme of Objective 5b funding ending in 1999.

Following Government Office advice that the Rate Grant Scheme could conflict with the Data Sheet 15 scheme, a compromised version of the scheme had been worked up and sent off. The Chief Executive was awaiting response.
RECOMMENDED

1. That the progress on the Business Rate Grant Scheme be welcomed and the arrangements to cope with the possible cessation of Objective 5B funding be agreed.

2. That the need to repackage the scheme as a result of Government Office guidance be reluctantly accepted.
