V26-1219 : TREE PRESERVATION ORDER (NO. 265) 1998
LAND AT 198 BRIDGE ROAD, OULTON BROAD, LOWESTOFT
The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control advised that the above Order was made in November 1998 after rumours earlier in the year that mature trees in the rear garden were under threat were confirmed by the landowner commencing felling. Three large hollies, an oak and a sycamore were covered and the owner ceased work immediately on receipt of the order.
The new owners felt that the trees dominated their long, but narrow rear garden and blocked light and outlook. However, officers' decision to make an order was based entirely on the wider visual amenity contribution. There did not appear to be any structural damage reasons or other reasons to override the case for the order to be confirmed. Members, however, felt that the trees were not particularly attractive specimens, could barely be seen on the street scene and were crowded in a small garden. They did not wish to confirm the Order.
RESOLVED
That Tree Preservation Order (No. 265) 1998, 198 Bridge Road, Lowestoft, be not confirmed.
The meeting was concluded at 10.00pm.
