V26-1211 : W12911/1 - PAKEFIELD RIFLE RANGE, LONDON ROAD, GISLEHAM

Application for change of use of part of rifle range site for flying model aircraft.

The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control set out an application to form a car parking area and landing strip for model aircraft on part of the rifle range at Pakefield. Hours of use were proposed to be 10am to one hour before dusk, seven days a week.

The major planning consideration was the potential noise impact on adjacent residential properties. The Code of Practice on Noise from Model Aircraft had been studied, and the area would be carefully restricted based on the recommendations in the Code. The Director considered that so long as aircraft were restricted to the cliff top area to the east of the landing strip, any impact on residential property would be negligible, and he recommended approval with the condition limiting flight area.

Members felt that the hours of use were too long, and were also concerned at how the Club would restrict flying to the area outlined by the Director. They requested deferral for clarification with the applicant on these points.

RESOLVED

That consideration of application W12911/1 be deferred for consultation with the applicant on hours of use and flying area restriction.
