Development Control - 16/12/98

V26-1187 : FORMER PRINT WORKS, WALTON ROAD, LOWESTOFT

BREACH OF CONDITION

The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control concerned the approval given in June 1998 for the above premises to become a pine furniture centre, including retail and storage. A galvanised pallisade type of security fence had been erected without permission along the frontage. It was acceptable to include it as part of the overall permission for the change of use, but a condition was imposed to remove the section nearest to the neighbours' house and replace it with something less threatening and more pleasant to their outlook.

A deadline of three months from 19 September 1998 was set but this passed without details being agreed. A 1.8 metre wall for the section of frontage to the neighbour was then agreed, along with a final deadline of completion by 30 November 1998. However, by 2 December 1998 only a token start on the work had been made. Bricks had arrived at the site, but the work was not complete and action was requested.

RESOLVED

That the Chief Executive be authorised to serve a Breach of Condition Notice and to take all pursuant action to ensure compliance with condition 4 of permission W17081 relating to the former Print Works, Walton Road, Lowestoft, as per the amendment agreed with the applicant.
