V26-1121 : RELOCATION OF HALESWORTH MUSEUM - CAPITAL GRANT

The report of the Director of Community Services outlined an application for a Minor Project Capital Grant of £977 from the Trustees of Halesworth and District Museum towards the cost of adapting and furnishing part of the Halesworth Railway Station building for use as a new base for the Museum. The cost of the project was estimated at £14,505, and grant aid of £5,076 from the Rural Development Commission and £7,252 from the European Community European Regional Development Fund had been confirmed. The Trust themselves would raise £1,200.

The Director had some concerns about the new site, which was more remote from the town centre and tourist trails, and any promotional activity for the new museum should take this into account. Any increase in revenue costs should also be met through income other than that derived from the Council's Leisure Revenue Grant. It was proposed that the grant offer of £977 be made, but that the grant only be released when the Council's Principal Cultural Services Officer was satisfied that all conditions as to the viability of the scheme had been met.

RESOLVED

That a grant of £977 from the Minor Project Capital Budget be made to the Trustees of Halesworth and District Museum for the purpose of relocating the facility at Halesworth Station, subject to issues of promotion and ongoing revenue costs being satisfied and clarified.
