V26-1116 : MARITIME MUSEUM PROJECT

The report of the Director of Community Services outlined recent progress on the development of a more co-ordinated approach to the management of the District's maritime heritage. The European 5b funding programme for Lowestoft, Measure 1: Fisheries diversification, included provision for the development of a Heritage Centre, which would enable local maritime heritage projects to be consolidated onto one site, increase the chances of lottery funding and create a tourist attraction and economic generator for Lowestoft.

The Director had established a cross-department Maritime Museum Project Team to lead the development of proposals including external fundraising. The Team would initially seek external funding to finance a feasibility study. If progressed, the results of the study would be reported to Committee.

RESOLVED

That the establishment of the Maritime Museum Project Team be noted, and the proposed feasibility study be supported with external funding being sought.
