WAVENEY FRONTAGE NORTH OF LOWESTOFT NESS

The report of the Director of Community Services identified an opportunity for the Council to enter into a partnership arrangement with Great Yarmouth Borough Council to undertake a study of the coast, from Gorleston to Lowestoft Ness, that would produce a strategy for implementation of the management policies derived under the recently adopted Shoreline Management Plans.

The study cost of £25-30K was able to be funded from an existing maintenance budget over this and the next financial year. The capital programme spending requirement for further studies over this frontage over subsequent years would reduce by £25-30K.

RESOLVED

1. That the Council join with Great Yarmouth Borough Council in a Study of the coast from Gorleston to Lowestoft to produce an implementation strategy that will include consideration of the Great Yarmouth Port Authority Outer Harbour proposal.

2. That Halcrow be commissioned to undertake the Study, under detailed terms to be agreed by the Director of Community Services, as the existing consultants to Great Yarmouth Borough Council and in accordance with the provisions of Standing Order 6.2(c).

3. That the Council's proportion of costs for the Coastal Processes Study of approximately £25,000 be met from the Coast Protection Maintenance Budget for 1998/99 and 1999/00.
