V26-1104 : RESIDENTS PARKING SCHEME- BECCLES

The report of the Director of Community Services dealt with a letter members had received from Mr Harris of 26 Hungate, Beccles, concerning the introduction of residents' parking in Crowfoot Gardens, Beccles. Mr Harris had for the past few years parked his car in Crowfoot Gardens, but this would not be permitted under the Scheme.

The Residents' Parking Working Party had met to discuss the request. Mr Harris would be able to park on-street in Alexandra Road, approximately 120 metres further south than Crowfoot Gardens. This was considered to be a reasonable walking distance from his house.

It was also felt that allowing a special exception for Mr Harris would set a precedent not only for the Beccles scheme but also the schemes in Lowestoft with potentially significant implications. The Working Party also considered that until parking trends had been established and possible surplus residents' parking spaces identified, no exceptions should be made to the proposed scheme.

RESOLVED

That no exceptions to the Residents' Parking Scheme in Beccles be considered.
