V26-105 : TOURISM SIGNING FOR BECCLES
The report of the Director of Community Services outlined a request from Beccles Town Council and Beccles Business Association for signing on the A146 to attract tourists into the town.
Two basic signs could be erected on the bypass, at a total estimated cost of about £5,500. However, if more detailed signs were used, continuity signing to direct traffic to the attraction would be required, which was estimated to cost an additional £5,000. There was a budget allocation of £7,000 for signing in Beccles, leaving a shortfall of £3,500. It was considered appropriate to ask the Town Council and the local traders to make a contribution, but if this was not forthcoming a further report would be brought to the Committee.
RESOLVED
1. That a detailed scheme involving continuity signing for Beccles be prepared and approval be sought from Suffolk County Council.
2. That contributions be sought from Beccles Town Council and the local traders towards the costs of the scheme.
