V26-1045 : EMPLOYEES' CODE OF CONDUCT

The report of the Chief Internal Auditor set out a Code of Conduct to apply to all the Council's employees as recommended by the Audit Commission. The Code took account of the model issued by the Local Government Management Board while incorporating issues from other control documents, in particular the Personnel Code of Practice.

Compulsory Codes of Conduct for members and officers were likely to be introduced as part of the Government's modernising agenda, necessitating this voluntary Code to be amended.

Staff representatives had been consulted on the Code and as far as possible their comments had been taken into account. There were a few outstanding disagreements which it was hoped could be settled, and if necessary there was the dispute procedure to follow.

RECOMMENDED

That the Code of Conduct for Employees be adopted.
