V26-1029 : GREY'S OPTICIANS, MARKET PLACE, BUNGAY - UNAUTHORISED ILLUMINATED SI

The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control advised the existing shopfront at the above site was modern in character in contrast to the upper floors of the listed building. The occupants had installed a new fascia sign and external lighting in the form of a brass striplight. The sign was similar in size to that previously used by the previous occupiers, and no objection was raised to its appearance. The striplight, however, was very modern in appearance and had been the subject of complaints. The illumination required both Advertisement Consent and Listed Building Consent.

Negotiations had taken place to try to achieve a more sympathetic form of lighting by agreement. However, despite some willingness to consider revised lighting details, no progress had been made nor had an application been received to retain the unauthorised lighting.

RESOLVED

That the Chief Executive be authorised to serve a Listed Building Enforcement Notice and to take all pursuant action to secure the removal of the illumination of the sign at Grey's Opticians, Market Place, Bungay.
