V26-1018 : W13645/2 - HALESWORTH RAILWAY STATION, HALESWORTH
Application for change of use to museum, day centre and transport office. The report of the Director of Planning and Building Control concerned a proposal to incorporate three community based uses within the existing station building, which was currently vacant and last used as a craft workshop. The accommodation was set over two floors, with the museum occupying the first floor and a central position on the ground floor. Approximately one third of the ground floor was proposed for use as a day centre by Mencap, and an office would be occupied by Halesworth Community Transport. There would be no external changes to the building, and all doors on the platform side would be sealed up. The Halesworth Museum would be relocated from Steeple End where it was currently based.
Objections had been received concerning the effect of the proposed use on parking and speeding in Station Road. However, the proposal was for relatively light usage generating little extra traffic, and there had been no problems experienced with the previous community use of the site.
The Director felt that the scheme would be beneficial to the community as a whole, as well as involving the re-use of a building which had been neglected; he recommended approval. RESOLVED
That planning permission be granted to application W13645/2.
(Councillor Leverett and Mr Woolley declared an interest in the above item and left the room during the debate)
