V25-915 : CONCESSIONARY BUS PASS SCHEME - CONDITIONS

The Director of Central Services reported a recent request from a partner of a disabled person for widening the eligibility of the above scheme. The request arose as the disabled person could only travel with the help of their partner, who was not of pensionable age and did not automatically qualify for their own pass. It was requested that the partner be allowed half fare travel when they travelled together.

None of the other Suffolk Districts had such a policy, and there were likely to be practical difficulties in implementing such a policy change. It could be argued partners of blind people should also be included in any widening of the scheme. A meeting of the Suffolk Officers Concessionary Fares Working Group was due to take place on 22 October 1997. One of the issues to be discussed was the development of the County Scheme. For this reason and the practical difficulties of implementation it was not recommended that the scheme be changed at present.

RECOMMENDED

That eligibility for the Concessionary Bus Pass Scheme is not changed.
