V25-913 : INFORMATION STRATEGY PROGRESS REPORT

The Sub-Committee considered the report of the Director of Central Services which provided an annual progress report on the implementation of the Council's Information Strategy.

In particular it reviewed progress with downsizing from the ICL mainframe and the Sanderson 9120's to network servers and the implementation of the windows operating system. It also considered future developments with regard to Area Offices, Printing, the Internet and the Year 2000 problem.

RECOMMENDED

1. That the progress report be received and the following sums be provided for the capital and revenue budgets for 1998/99, subject to further review as part of the budget process:

(i) hardware purchase/replacement £120,000
(ii) software and other costs £50,000

2. That the priorities for this investment be determined by the Computer Users Group and the actual mix of hardware and software costs be left to their discretion, subject to the overall limit of £170,000.
