V25-883 : STREET TRADING CONSENT - MRS. P. JACKSON
The Director of Housing and Environmental Services reported that this matter had been brought to the Committee's attention as an undertaking was given to review Mrs. Jackson's application following 12 months trading. Mrs. Jackson had been given a conditional street trading consent for the sale of ice creams during the 1997 season from a tricycle type stall in designated areas of Southwold. She had now applied for this consent to be re-issued for the coming year. The usual consultations with other Departments, the Police and Highways Authority etc had been completed and no adverse comments had been received. Southwold Town Council, who were against the renewal of Mrs. Jackson's street trading consent, had written to the Chief Executive and this letter was copied to members. The Town Council had since written further and apologised for the tone of their previous letter and withdrew the critical elements from their observations. The Chief Executive had given assurances that the application would be judged solely on its merits. The Director of Housing and Environmental Services accepted that a complaint had been received from a Town Councillor that Mrs. Jackson was trading outside the conditions of her consent, and appropriate action was taken. However, no other complaints had been received from members of the public or visitors during the summer season. RESOLVED
That Mrs. P. Jackson be granted street trading consent to continue selling ice creams from a tricycle type stall in designated areas of Southwold.
