V25-882 : "AGENDAS FOR CHANGE" - THE REPORT OF THE COMMISSION ON ENVIRONMENTAL

The Committee considered the report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services which provided a brief overview of the establishment, process and main findings of the independent Commission on Environmental Health, established in March 1996, by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health.

The Commission reached six central conclusions and produced 21 recommendations and, if implemented, many of these could have significant impacts on environmental health services within local authorities.

RESOLVED

1. That the Director of Housing and Environmental Services review the Council's current policy and practice in respect of the recommendations which are appropriate to local authorities in the report of the Commission on Environmental Health, including Government Policy.

2. That the result of the above considerations be reported to a future meeting of the Committee and the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health be advised of the outcome of such considerations.
