V25-855 : BECCLES FESTIVAL

At minute V22 - 297/3 it was reported that an effort would be made to re-launch Beccles Festival with the £1,200 retained in the original account of the former organisers.

Over the past two years discussions and meetings had revealed a potential programme and interest in a Festival. However, in order to be successful and remain strongly rooted in the local community of Beccles, a local, enthusiastic and experienced organiser, with sufficient time to undertake the difficult task of compiling, promoting and managing the event would be needed. Officers did not have the time to organise this event, nor should they lead what should essentially remain a Beccles organised activity.

Reluctantly officers felt the demise of the former Beccles Festival should be accepted and the balance of funds redistributed. Members were disappointed at this conclusion and hoped that if an organiser were to come forward in the future the Festival might be re-launched, a move which would receive encouragement from the Council.

RESOLVED

That it be noted that upon the demise of the Beccles Festival the Trustees will distribute the remaining balance of funds of £1,200 to appropriate local charities.
