(a) Lake Lothing Site Visit
The Chief Executive informed members that the site visit for members to inspect Lake Lothing by boat had been arranged for Saturday 10 October 1997. It was therefore necessary for members to notify the Chief Executive by Wednesday 8 October 1997 whether they would be attending. The Chief Executive emphasised the tight timetable which would commence at 10.30am and finish at 12.30pm on Saturday. (b) Diana, Princess of Wales
The Chairman announced that the Chief Executive had arranged for the book of condolence to be available for members to sign at the entrance of the Council Chamber. The Chief Executive informed members that the Local Government Association was liaising with Lord Spencer with regard to the final destination of the condolence books. He also added that following the letter of condolence sent from the Chairman of the Council to his Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, the Chairman had received a reply from his Royal Highness the Prince of Wales' Private Secretary, which was read out accordingly. (c) Sea Cadets - Visit to Japan
The Chairman informed Councillors that she had recently attended a function of the Lowestoft Sea Cadets and was reminded that before Wendy Theobold's visit to Japan the Council had donated plaques for her to present to dignatories during her visit. On returning to Britain, Wendy presented to the Chairman a plaque commemorating Wendy's visit to Japan. The plaque was displayed at the meeting. (d) Jim Aldous and Chester Mutimer
The Chairman announced with great sadness, the death of two former Councillors, Jim Aldous a Councillor from 1973 to 1988 and Chester Mutimer a Councillor from 1979 to 1983. The Chairman paid tribute to both Jim Aldous and Chester Mutimer, particularly Chester's work with the British Legion. Members stood in silent tribute to remember Mr Aldous and Mr Mutimer.
