V25-749 : PRECEPT PAYMENT DATES

The Director of Central Services advised that the dates for the payment of precepts to Suffolk County Council and the Suffolk Police Authority were usually agreed with all the Suffolk local authorities. However, in the absence of agreement a specified default schedule would come into force. The default schedule had now changed and as a result a change was required to the Suffolk arrangements for 1998/99 onwards.

The Suffolk Treasurers' Association had agreed that the instalment dates should be brought forward to the 15th day of each month. By 1999/2000 the proposed schedule maintained about the same advantage to the precepting authorities as the current arrangements.

RECOMMENDED

That agreement in principle be made that the payment of precepts to Suffolk County Council and the Suffolk Police Authority in 1998/99 and subsequent years be on the 15th of each month or the following banking day if the 15th falls on a non-banking day.
