V25-720 : USE OF SUB CONTRACTORS
The Director of Waveney Contract Services reminded the Committee that at its meeting of 1 July 1997, members had asked for more information on the use of sub contractors. A report on the advantages and disadvantages of a variety of employment methods had been prepared for Policy Group for future discussion. Members had also asked for information about expenditure on sub contractors. Information was not kept exclusively recording sub contractor expenditure as invoices from sub contractors were regarded in the same way as invoices from material suppliers. However a manual exercise carried out indicated that approximately £225,000 was spent in 1996/97 on sub contractors, relating mainly to specialist asphalting, roofing, flooring, scaffolding and weed killing services. The Director of Waveney Contract Services stressed that the £225,000 figure included as sub- contracting costs, not merely labour costs. Members noted that agency staff were also used by the Department, and requested that a separate costing account be kept for this factor also. RESOLVED
That the report on Sub Contractors be received
