V25-712 : DESIGNATION OF A LITTER CONTROL AREA

The Director of Housing and Environmental Services outlined the considerable problems experienced in relation to the safe and secure storage of litter by the occupiers of premises on the North Quay Retail Park. Letters and visits to the stores had produced temporary relief of the problem in the past but after a short time the problem re-occurred.

Some of the litter problems could be related to vandalism but the onus was on the occupiers of the stores to take such steps as to reduce the risk of any litter problem.

The Committee were informed of the powers of Section 90(3) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 which allowed Waveney, as a principal litter authority, to designate any land in their area as a litter control area.

RECOMMENDATION

That the area occupied by the North Quay Retail Park be designated as the North Quay Retail Park Litter Control Area under Section 90(3) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990, subject to the receipt of no representations from the occupiers within 21 days of the issue of the Order.
