V25-679 : VOID PROPERTY PROCEDURES
The Sub-Committee considered the report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services which proposed a series of measures aimed at reducing the void property timescale in light of measures likely to be imposed under the government's new 'Best Value' initiative. Whilst welcoming the concerns of the Department, members considered that the measures, in alleviating one problem, could result in others. Members asked whether existing measures could be better utilised as regards properties at risk of being 'trashed'. The Chief Executive relayed that whilst these properties could be identified and injunctions or possession orders issued or earlier recharge for damage made, the human resource issue would need to be considered. RESOLVED
That the existing procedures be tightened, and a report on progress be made to Housing and Environmental Services Committee in six months time.
