V25-667 : PLAY AREA, STATION ROAD, CORTON

The Director of Community Services reported that Corton Parish Council wished to improve security at the play area at Station Road, Corton following an attempted child abduction last year. The site was used for ball games, as well as the use of normal children's play equipment, and was bordered on the Station Road side by a high hedge which blocked any view from the footpath on Station Road.

Officers had held discussions with the Parish Council and agreed that the best solution would be to cut the existing hedge down to a height of one metre and erect a 1.80 m high chainlink fence on the inside of the hedgeline. This solution would allow good supervision of the play area and contain most balls within the boundary. The erection of the fencing to a length of approximately 140 metres would allow the hedge to be repaired and replanted.

The Parish Council had agreed to undertake the work to the hedge and had asked the Council for a grant of £1,700 for the cost of the fencing.

RESOLVED

That a grant of £1700 be made to Corton Parish Council for the erection of a chainlink fence at the play area, Station Road, Corton, to be met from the Minor Projects Community Grants scheme.
