V25-666 : RIVER BLYTH - MANAGEMENT PROPOSALS FOR POWERED WATER-SPORTS
The Committee considered the report of the Director of Community Services which examined the management arrangements for powered water sports, in particular water skiing on the River Blyth at Southwold. In 1994 the Southwold Water-ski Club was established, and soon after it was discovered that the River Blyth was being advertised as an unrestricted river. As most rivers in England had management controls in place, the River Blyth was attracting an irresponsible element of the water sport fraternity. A voluntary arrangement between the Southwold Water-ski Club and English Nature had placed constraints upon members of the Club, although no legal contracts had been introduced. A public consultation undertaken in April demonstrated support for formalising the existing management arrangements. RESOLVED
That the management arrangements for powered water sports on the River Blyth established by the Working Group and attached to the report of the Director of Community Services be approved.
