V25-661 : EASTERN ARTS BOARD - POLICY CHANGE

The Committee considered the report of the Director of Community Services which explained that the Eastern Arts Board (EAB), the arts development agency for the eastern region, worked closely with the Local Government Arts Forum (LGAF), an independent body which was the association of local authorities in the region having an interest in the provision and development of the Arts. There had been concern that non-subscribing authorities had been receiving the same service as those subscribing, and after consultation with the LGAF, the EAB had adopted a policy of differentiation between members and non members of the region's LGAF.

The report concluded that differentiation between subscribing and non subscribing authorities would provide improved value for money for subscribing authorities, including Waveney. However, arts development within the County would be adversely affected by the County Council's decision not to subscribe to the LGAF.

RESOLVED

1. That the change in policy at the Eastern Arts Board be noted, and that the effect of the new policy on arts organisations within the District be monitored.

2. That representations be made to Suffolk County Council expressing concern at its decision not to subscribe to the Local Government Arts Forum.
