Lowestoft Planning - 02/07/97

V25-570 : W3077/5 - CORNER OF LONDON ROAD SOUTH AND PAKEFIELD STREET, LOWESTOF

Application for sheltered housing development consisting of 10 flats.

The Director of Planning and Building Control reported that the above scheme made good use of a derelict corner on the main approach to the town, and in townscape terms was to be welcomed. However, the scheme was very intensive, with minimal parking and open space standards. He advised that approval could only be recommended for elderly residents, and a reduced scheme. Negotiations had resulted in a design proposing one less unit.

Objections had been received from two residents concerning the size of the building and alteration of the character of the area.

The Sub-Committee felt that, even for elderly residents, the lack of parking and amenity space on this development was unacceptable, and ten, or even nine units was over-development of the site.

RESOLVED

That planning permission be refused to application W3077/5.
