V25-541 : THE GAP PROJECT

REPRESENTATION ON OUTSIDE BODIES

The Gap Project was being set up by a multi-agency group comprising Education, Lowestoft College, School Health, Social Services, National Children's Homes and Norfolk and Waveney TEC. The aim of the Project was to provide support, guidance and activities for young people who had left school but had not yet taken up a training scheme, college course or job.

All the agencies involved in the Project felt strongly that there was a danger of vulnerable young people falling by the wayside during the months between leaving school and taking up a placement. They felt that the self worth, self esteem and motivation built up in young people whilst attending Old Warren House and other educational establishments could be lost when the official school leaving age was reached and the safety net was removed.

The Deputy Teacher of Old Warren House had written asking if the Council would like to be involved in The Gap Project. It was suggested that a member representative attend future meeting of the Project.

RESOLVED

That Councillor Punter be appointed as the Council's representative on the Gap Project, and attendance be authorised as an approved duty.
