The Sub-Committee considered the following table which showed the collection of the 1996/97 Council Tax and Non-Domestic rate as at 31 March 1997. The figures were taken from the QRC4 returns to the Department of the Environment.

At 97% the Council Tax collection performance was slightly below the locally set target but was an improvement over the equivalent 1995/96 performance. There had been a significant improvement in Non-Domestic rate collection compared to the 1995/96 figure. The average QRC4 figures for Shire districts were 96.2% for Council Tax and 96.9% for Non-Domestic rates.

At 31 March 1997 the Community Charge arrears were below the bad debt provision. Any collection would be able to help reduce future Council Tax levels.
