V25-426 : YOUTH FORUM UPDATE

This item updated members on the successes of the Youth Forum since its conception in Autumn last year. These successes were as follows:

(a) The Forum had negotiated a 25% discount on Eastern Counties Omnibus Limited Bus Services for 16-18 year olds in full time education. This scheme would start in September 1997.

(b) A full page entry in the National Publication "HERE! HERE! Promoting Children and Young People's Democratic Participation in Local Government", published by the Local Government Information Unit.

(c) Large notice boards were being placed in all high schools and Lowestoft College to improve publicity of events and other issues of interest to young people.

(d) A music event was being organised in the Autumn for a number of high school bands.

The Youth Forum had had considerable success in its first year. Over the Summer exam period the Forum would not be very active. However, in the Autumn discussions would start up again and other projects would be sought to build upon the Forum's success.

RESOLVED

That the Youth Forum be congratulated on the successes it has achieved so far.

The Meeting was concluded at 8.10 pm.
