V25-409 : OFF STREET CAR PARKING - PERIOD TICKETS
The Committee were reminded that as from 1 April 1997 the period tickets for longer term parking had been increased. Notwithstanding significant increases it was considered that the new rates still represented good value in comparison with the daily tariffs. A complaint had been received from the Somerfield Supermarket employees about the level of increase and a suggestion that the authority might wish to adopt a lower, or free, charge to encourage those employees to park on the top floor of the Battery Green multi-storey car park. This floor was the least convenient and was not often fully used. Members were concerned that the precedent of such a concession may open the floodgates to a plethora of similar enquiries. RESOLVED
That no action be taken on the request from the employees of Somerfields Supermarkets for a reduction in long term parking fees in conjunction with use of the top floor at Battery Green Car Park.
