V25-379 : W16791 - LAND AT JUNCTION OF TOWER ROAD/LONDON ROAD, GISLEHAM

Application for a non-food retail park (class A1) with restaurant (Class A3).

The Sub-Committee considered the report of the Director of Planning and Building Control which included a recommendation for refusal. The Director of Planning and Building Control informed members that the application site was included as part of a legal agreement to keep it free from development as a buffer zone between the industrial estate and the A12, and there were 18 objections reported from the nearby local community.

Members were also reminded of the retail strategy adopted at Development and Operations Committee of 27 February 1996, which was in line with Central Government guidance contained in PPG 6 on safeguarding the vitality and viability of town centres.

RESOLVED

That planning permission be refused to application W16791, in line with adopted policy.
