V25-362 : W1623/6 - 40 BRIDGE ROAD, LOWESTOFT
Application for change of use to taxi office.
The Director of Planning and Building Control reported that this application was from the proprietor of two large premises whose customers were currently serviced by several local taxi firms. The proprietor felt that it would make good business sense to provide this service himself, for which an administrative centre was required, and 40 Bridge Road was proposed. Taxis would not be parked outside 40 Bridge Road, however, the highway authority advised that experience had shown that both taxis and customers were drawn to taxi control bases, causing disturbance. This was already a noise sensitive area due to a late opening takeaway food premises, and there had been four objections to the application on grounds of noise disturbance from radios, drivers and customers. The Council's Taxi Enforcement Officer reported that the premises would need to be open past 12 midnight, which would be inconsistent with the 12 midnight closing of the takeaway premises. The recommendation of the Director of Planning and Building Control was for refusal. RESOLVED
That planning permission be refused to application W1623/6.
