V25-281 : MEMBERS' ALLOWANCES - PUBLICATION

Statutory Instrument 1995 No. 553 "The Local Authorities (Members' Allowances) (Amendment) Regulations 1995" required that as soon as practicable after the end of a year an authority should make arrangements for publication within the authority's area of the total sum paid by it in that year under its Members' Allowances Scheme to each member in respect of each of the following, namely, basic allowance, special responsibility allowance and attendance allowance.

A schedule had been provided containing this information for the year ended 31 March 1997 and showing the amounts of each allowance actually paid in the financial year. A further copy of the schedule was tabled at the meeting, amending drafting errors.

In the case of "attendance allowances" the amounts paid followed from the claims submitted. Where claims had not been submitted on a regular basis the amount shown could not be an accurate reflection of a year's attendances.

The inclusion of this report on the open part of the Sub-Committee agenda met the requirements to publish the information within the Council's area.

RESOLVED

That the report on members' allowances be approved in satisfaction of the publication requirements.
