V25-243 : E.COLI 0157 - THE PENNINGTON GROUP REPORT AND ITS IMPLICATIONS

The Committee considered the report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services which outlined the implications for Local Authorities following the publication of the Pennington Group Report.

The Director of Housing and Environmental Services considered that the main effect of the report would be an additional number of between 100 and 250 training courses, and approximately 80 additional inspections of premises during the year. Extra finance would be available from the Government in view of this, but the Director of Central Services confirmed monies would be difficult to isolate from overall grants to ensure "ring-fencing" for this purpose.

RESOLVED

That full support be given to implement the necessary changes in Food Safety Enforcement as outlined in the report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services.

* Policy decision.
