V25-215 : HOLIDAY PLAYSCHEMES

The Sub-Committee considered the report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services which outlined proposals for the Holiday Playschemes throughout the Waveney District during summer 1997.

Action for Families, who had been appointed to take over the running of the schemes, had proposed to introduce a "doorstep" scheme, where playworkers would run sessions on play areas on Council Estates. Five such sites had been suggested as follows:

Britten Road, Lowestoft
Jasmine Green, Lowestoft
Montgomery Road, Lowestoft
Tower Hill, Beccles
Kings Road, Bungay

These schemes would be run in addition to the existing Holiday Playschemes at the following locations:

Benjamin Britten High School, Lowestoft
Whitton Green County Primary School, Lowestoft
Crowfoot County Primary School, Beccles
Bungay High School Community Wing
Holton Village Hall, Holton, Halesworth

A viability query existed over the Crowfoot, Beccles scheme. Members suggested that Beccles Middle School be approached if an alternative site were needed.

RESOLVED

1. That the "doorstep scheme" as outlined in the report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services, be introduced at the five designated sites over a four week period.

2. That a maximum number of places as outlined in the report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services, be offered to the children of Council tenants at each of the Holiday Playschemes.
