V25-190 : SUMMER PLAYSCHEMES
The Sub-Committee was reminded that a budget of £16,500 had been provided to finance a Summer Playscheme. The Summer Playscheme had been run for four consecutive years, and 1996 was the first arranged by Action for Families, a group overseen by Suffolk Social Services. The Action for Families run playscheme was a great success and was well organised and managed. The Playscheme was extended from Lowestoft and Beccles to include Bungay and Halesworth, therefore covering most of the district, and ran over most of the summer vacation. All staff were trained and Playschemes managed to required standards. A total of 457 children attended the Playschemes of which 269 (58%) were from Council tenants families. Feedback received from the children and their parents was extremely positive and enquiries had already been received from parents about this year's Playscheme. Members suggested that for full utilisation of the scheme a small deposit could be charged to ensure maximum attendance. RESOLVED
That the Summer Playscheme be continued for 1997, with a budget allocation of £16,500.
