V25-172 : RYEDALE, CARLTON COLVILLE - BALL GAME PROBLEMS

At minute V24 - 401/12 the Leisure Services Committee had considered difficulties caused by ball games on the open space at Ryedale.

Since this item was considered certain improvements had been carried out on the area, including extending fencing and improvements to the shrub bed on the northern boundary of the site. The Committee had resolved that officers work with the Lowestoft Police towards reducing the nuisance created by older children on the open space.

The householder to the north of the open space had again been complaining about the damage to his fence and property caused by children playing ball games on the site. He said the extra planting and fencing had had little effect and he would like ball games to be banned from the area.

However, the problem was specific to older children congregating on the area and causing nuisance, and a sign would discriminate against younger children who use this site for ball games without causing any problems.

This site was the most suitable on the Bloodmoor Development for ball games as it was the largest area of informal open space without play equipment.

RESOLVED

1. That ball games be permitted to continue on the open space at Ryedale, Carlton Colville.

2. That officers continue to work with the Police towards reducing the nuisance created by older children on the open space at Ryedale.
