V25-171 : NICHOLAS EVERITT PARK - FAIR
The Director of Community Services reported that Lowestoft Lions Club's Charity Gala Day at Nicholas Everitt Park would once again take place on August Bank Holiday, Monday, 25 August 1997. The park was used free of charge by the Lowestoft Lions Club which organised all the entertainment and operated the gates, with the profit generated going to their local charity fund. Among the entertainment/attractions presented at the Gala Day was a small fair whose operator paid ground rent to the Lions Club for the day. However, the operator, David Kingsford Smith, had requested that he be permitted to set up the fair equipment to open from 18 August, offering the Council a rent of £500 for the extra seven days. The Deed of Gift, drawn up in 1929, did stipulate that no roundabout or other noisy machines should be allowed on the park, but it had been usual practice over many years to allow fairground style amusements during Bank Holidays. However, it was felt any significant increase in fairground activity in the park would generally be unwelcome and an extension to the long weekend was considered to be the best option. RESOLVED
That David Kingsford Smith be permitted to operate a fair at Nicholas Everitt Park from 22-24 August 1997, with a rent of approximately £450 to be negotiated.
