V25-1626 : THE USE OF ALTERNATIVE FUELS
The report of the Director of Waveney of Contract Services set out the range of fuels available for use in vehicles and options for the future, and increased cost implications thereof. A Fleet Managers Group in the Eastern region was regularly discussing updates on "greener fuels" and close contacts were being maintained with filtration manufacturers, vehicle manufacturers and fuel distributers on progress in the field of development. Members felt that a start on the issue had been made by production of the report. Clearly to make this a cost effective exercise, there needed to be Government incentives to encourage Councils to incur the obvious increased costs. RESOLVED
1. That discussion be held with client departments to determine how the use of more environmentally fuels can be written into future service contracts. 2. That the comments of the Committee be passed on to the fuel distributors to continue looking at ways of reducing emissions, and the MP for Waveney be asked to take up this issue, if felt appropriate.
