V25-1618 : "OUR HEALTHIER NATION" - CONSULTATION PAPER

The report of the Director of Housing and Environmental Services examined a recently published Consultation Paper which reviewed generally recent trends in health statistics in the UK and identified factors responsible for poor health. The factors were considered regionally and in the context of existing local and national services.

A "Contract for Health" was proposed which committed Government, local services and individuals to participate in activities that would secure better health for all. The Director circulated a summary leaflet on the paper which clearly highlighted that local authorities had a role to play. He welcomed members contributions to an open debate on the issues, which were recorded in detail for the Director to assimilate and use in his initial response.

RESOLVED

That the Director of Housing and Environmental Services be authorised to prepare a response to the Government Green Paper "Our Health Nation" taking into account the views of members and representatives of Suffolk Health Authority.
