V25-1617 : SUNDAY OBSERVANCE ACT 1780 - PRACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS
The report of the Chief Executive examined the decision of the Licensing Panel made at minute V25-1353 to amend the licensing condition relating to the Sunday Observance Act 1780 to permit the imposition of an admittance fee for entertainments on a Sunday provided no dancing took place. The Housing and Environmental Services Committee had referred the issue back to the Licensing Panel as concerns had been expressed that certain charity fund raising events could not take place as dancing was involved. The Licensing Panel at its meeting on 26 February 1998 reaffirmed its previous decision and recommended that this Committee confirm that decision. RESOLVED
1. That the decision of the Licensing Panel made at V25-1353 be confirmed. 2. That the Council support a change in the law and the Chief Executive write to the local Member of Parliament seeking his support and assistance if he feels that is appropriate.
