V25-161 : CORTON PLAYING FIELDS ASSOCIATION
The Director of Community Services reported that Corton Playing Fields Association wished to develop their facility for the benefit of the Corton community and North Lowestoft. The project was costed at £172,000 and included floodlit all-weather tennis/football surface, cricket square, pavilion, changing room improvements, improved car parking and levelled and re- seeded football pitches. The Association, in addition to its own fundraising, would be seeking funding from a variety of partners including Suffolk County Council and the Football Association. The majority of the funding would, however, be sought from the Sports Council National Lottery. The application was likely to be for funding in excess of £100,000. The Council's budget for this type of project was the minor projects capital grants scheme. A number of awards were made at V24 - 509/5 and a balance of £6,037 remained under that budget heading. It was recommended that a grant of £5,000 be made, conditional upon a successful National Lottery application. Should this application not succeed the project would have to be re- appraised, and the scheme re-presented in its reduced form for consideration. RESOLVED
That a grant of £5,000 be awarded to the Corton Playing Field Association for the development of their facility, subject to a successful National Lottery application for substantial funding.
