V25-1607 : SUNDAY OBSERVANCE ACT 1780 - PRACTICAL CONSIDERATIONS
The report of the Chief Executive examined the decision of the Licensing Panel made at minute V25-1353 to amend the licensing condition relating to the Sunday Observance Act 1780 to permit the imposition of an admittance fee for entertainments on a Sunday provided no dancing took place. The Housing and Environmental Services Committee had referred the issue back to this Panel as concerns had been expressed that certain charity fund raising events could not take place as dancing was involved. The Panel confirmed its previous decision, and in recognition of the difficulties some organisations could face, considered that the amendment had only gone so far and events could still be permitted albeit with some restrictions. RESOLVED
That the Housing and Environmental Services Committee be recommended to confirm the following. (i) That the decision of the Licensing Panel made at minute V25-1353 be confirmed. (ii) That the Council support a change in the law and the Chief Executive write to the local Member of Parliament seeking his support and assistance.
