V25-1575 : CELEBRATING THE MILLENNIUM
The report of the Director of Community Services explored the role the Council would take in Celebrating the New Millennium, and outlined cost implications. The Chief Executive advised members that at the meeting of the Millennium Sub-Committee on 23 September 1997 discussion had taken place concerning a major project for Waveney to mark the Millennium. It was suggested that the Flotilla of Sails sculpture was a suitable project, and an Arts Council lottery grant application had been made. Individual towns within the District would still be able to celebrate the Millennium in their own way. RESOLVED
1. That details of the activities, events and the publicity brochure for celebrating the Millennium as detailed in the report of the Director of Community Services be prepared, and negotiations with event service providers be opened. 2. That a budget of £30,000 be allocated for Celebrating the New Millennium in the 1999/2000 financial year. *Commitment of Forward Budget
3. That an approach be made to the Millennium Commission and GOER to determine the likelihood of successful bids of £30,000 to match the Council's contribution. 4. That correspondence be sent to all likely New Millennium event and activity organisers requesting details of their proposals. 5. That subject to an Arts Council Lottery Grant being approved, the Flotilla of Sails be regarded as Waveney's major project to mark the Millennium.
