V25-1571 : 5-A-SIDE FOOTBALL AREA - MALTINGS MEADOW, BUNGAY

The report of the Director of Community Services considered the future use of the 5-a-side football area at the above site which had fallen into disrepair. The area was included in the Bungay Town Football Club lease and to restore to a standard for its intended purpose would cost in excess of £10,000, and was beyond existing Club funds.

The Club had asked if the Council would take back the 5-a-side area and remove it from the lease. Club officials had indicated a willingness to carry out necessary repairs, landscaping and tidying works to return the area to a useable facility for recreational purposes. Maltings Meadow was a poplar venue for young people and the area could easily be turned into a recreational area by providing basketball and skateboarding facilities, at a cost of £400 which could be met from existing budgets.

RESOLVED

1. That the Bungay Town Football Club carry out the works outlined in the report of the Director of Community Services to a standard which meets with the complete satisfaction of the Director of Community Services.

2. That, subject to (1) above being completed, the 5-a-side area be removed from the lease of Bungay Town Football Club with no reduction in lease payment due to its renewal.

3. That, subject to successful discussions with the English Basketball Association and local skateboarders, basketball and skateboarding facilities be provided at Maltings Meadow, Bungay at a cost of £400, to be met from existing budgets.
