V25-1556 : COAST PROTECTION SCHEME SUBMISSIONS TO MAFF

The report of the Director of Community Services advised that the Council's submission for a Detailed Appraisal of Southwold Harbour Entrance Pier had scored insufficient points in the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food's (MAFF) priority scoring system to enable approval for funding.

The Council's second submission, for a strategic study for the Southwold Town frontage, had not yet been considered for funding, but after close liaison with MAFF, Suffolk Coastal District Council and the Environment Agency it was agreed that a further bid should be made for a Strategic Study into coastal processes to cover a much larger section of shoreline from Easton Broad to Thorpeness. As MAFF timetables required submission of the proposal by 6 February 1998 confirmation of the submission was required.

RESOLVED

That the action of the Director of Community Services, in consultation with the Chairman, in co-ordinating and submitting joint applications to MAFF for coast protection studies from Easton Broad to Thorpeness, be confirmed.
